A grow­ing com­mu­ni­ty of ten­ants and partners

The Island is cur­rent­ly home to year-round ten­ants includ­ing the New York Har­bor School, a pub­lic high school focused on mar­itime and STEM edu­ca­tion, the Low­er Man­hat­tan Cul­tur­al Council’s Arts Cen­ter, an artist res­i­den­cy pro­gram and pub­lic gallery, overnight res­i­den­cy pro­grams from Shandaken:Projects and the Insti­tute for Pub­lic Archi­tec­ture, QC NY spa. These are joined over two dozen cul­tur­al and edu­ca­tion­al part­ners, and a grow­ing num­ber of amenities.

An expand­ed fer­ry net­work brings you to Low­er Man­hat­tan and Down­town Brook­lyn in min­utes, with addi­tion­al ser­vice through the grow­ing NYC Fer­ry Net­work. Enjoy water­front views of the Stat­ue of Lib­er­ty and city sky­line and a unique oppor­tu­ni­ty for users with need for direct water­front access.

ANNOUNC­ING THE NEW YORK CLI­MATE EXCHANGE

In April 2023, fol­low­ing a two-year com­pet­i­tive process, May­or Eric Adams and the Trust for Gov­er­nors Island announced the selec­tion of a new anchor insti­tu­tion for the Cen­ter for Cli­mate Solu­tions on Gov­er­nors Island. The New York Cli­mate Exchange, led by Stony Brook Uni­ver­si­ty, will be a first-of-its-kind, cross-sec­­tor non­prof­it orga­ni­za­tion ded­i­cat­ed to cli­mate research, solu­tion devel­op­ment, edu­ca­tion, work­force train­ing, and pub­lic pro­grams on Gov­er­nors Island.
