Gov­er­nors Island Ice Sculp­ture Show

Gov­er­nors Island Arts and Times Square Arts are pleased to announce a new part­ner­ship and open call for Gov­er­nors Island’s third annu­al Ice Sculp­ture Show. Ten artists will be cho­sen and each select­ed final­ist will be paired with a pro­fes­sion­al ice carv­er from Okamo­to Stu­dio, where sculp­tures will be carved in a two-hour pub­lic event on Gov­er­nors Island on Sat­ur­day, Feb­ru­ary 3, 2024. Vis­i­tors are invit­ed to wit­ness this real-time ice carv­ing and vote on their favorite sculp­ture for the​“People’s Choice Award” at the end of the event. A larg­er-scale ver­sion of the win­ning sculp­ture will then be carved and installed by Okamo­to Stu­dio in Times Square as a visu­al anchor for the district’s annu­al Valentine’s Day events. Insti­tute for Pub­lic Archi­tec­ture: 2024 Spring & Sum­mer Inde­pen­dent Project Residency

The Insti­tute for Pub­lic Archi­tec­ture (IPA) wel­comes appli­ca­tions for the 2024 Spring and Sum­mer Inde­pen­dent Projects Res­i­den­cy based at the his­toric Block House on Gov­er­nors Island. Emerg­ing and mid-career archi­tects, urban­ists, land­scape archi­tects, design­ers, and those com­mit­ted to the pub­lic realm in all dis­ci­plines are invit­ed to apply. Appli­cants will bring their own inter­ests and projects to the pro­gram and will receive oppor­tu­ni­ties to present their work to the pub­lic over the course of the Res­i­den­cy. Fel­lows receive project sup­port through access to sub­ject mat­ter experts and resources rel­e­vant to their project. Click here to learn more and apply by Decem­ber 222023.

Gov­er­nors Island Arts Pub­lic Art Com­mis­sion­ing Program

Gov­er­nors Island Arts presents a lim­it­ed num­ber of pub­lic art projects each year as part of its pub­lic art com­mis­sion­ing pro­gram. Artists and orga­ni­za­tions inter­est­ed in show­ing work on the Island as part of this pro­gram are invit­ed to con­tact the Trust for Gov­er­nors Island’s Arts and Cul­ture team at arts@​govisland.​org.
