Leasing & Development
Governors Island offers a wide range of development opportunities, including adaptive reuse of historic buildings and new construction on development zones through leases issued by the Trust. Permitted uses include education, office, hospitality, cultural, non-profit, convening space, restaurants and more.
Historic District
Existing buildings and spaces are made available for lease through public Request for Proposals (RFP) processes, or by contacting the Trust’s real estate team.
Development Areas
33 acres on the Island’s southern end were designated for future construction as part of the Island’s Park and Public Space Master Plan, released in 2010, including the 6.5 acre Western Development Zone and 26.5 Eastern Development Zone. These areas will be made available through a future public Request for Proposals process.
